Description
I left the Bay Area at 12:30am and headed out to Yosemite for a 4 day trip. I left early because I wanted to get there in time for sunrise. I did make it up there with time to spare and got all the way up to Glacier Point. There were some people who looked like they slept out there under the stars and were waiting for the sunrise as well.
This was my first time using my new Lee Graduated ND filters so it took me a while to play around with them, but I'm pretty happy with the results. No HDR here, just a single exposure using a .9 ND Soft Grad + .6 ND Soft Grad.
Even though it was early, the air was warm. I was standing there in shorts and a t-shirt and there was only a very slight breeze. At times, I was so taken in by the light and the scenery that I would forget to take periodic shots with the camera. This one was timed right as the sun was coming up over Half Dome. I used a small aperture to get the starburst effect.
Just to the right of the center of the image, you can see in the distance, Nevada Fall and Vernal Fall. They still had a decent amount of flow to them since they are part of the Merced River. Most of the other falls were dry or just trickles at this time of year.

Just breathtaking!!! We were at the opposite end of Yosemite about the same time...at Tioga Pass! It certainly is gorgeous there!! (Thanks for all the info on the filters you were using, too!!!) Great work, Mike!!! f/v

Thank you Lynn! Ohh, I definitely want to spend more time along the Tioga Road next time. I only spent one day up there this trip. Seems like Tenaya Lake and the Tuolumne Meadows would have some nice sunrise potential
